Summer SKIA 2013, Base Camp has begun! We have over 50 kids enrolled in our summer program. The first week was spent participating in a camp at Grace Fellowship Church. The rest of Summer SKIA will be spent here learning about serving, working and playing together in a variety of team building activities. Plus there is park time on Tuesdays and swimming on Thursdays.

The Red Carpet Mentor Appreciation Dinner was a blast! Jeff Keeling, Robin DeGregorio and Beverly Smith were recognized as Mentors of the Year. Lowe’s and General Shale were our Community Partners’ of the Year. And Superman, Wonder Woman and The Hulk made surprise visits as we celebrated the real heroes Rise Up! – Our Mentors and Volunteers!

As we reach the end of another school year, it’s natural to take time and reflect on what the Lord has been doing here at Rise Up! Over this past year we have tried to create a culture of clarifying the “win” in our staff and our programs. We took some time recently to write as many “wins” as we could think of that have happened over the past year. So we say thank you to you, our prayer partners, for being a part of these “wins”. Listed below are just a handful of our wins and as you pray for us this month, let’s praise God for these and for all He’s done for us.

1. A great night at our Mentor/Volunteer Appreciation Dinner in January

2. Averaging 2 new mentors per month

3. Almost all of our mentors signing on for another year

4. New mentors coming to us without any advertising on our part

5. Families recruiting other families for our after school program

6. Kids beginning their relationship with the Lord

7. Our kids who graduated are all going to college

8. A successful 1st Mountain View Kickball League

9. 3 new small groups started this year

10. New churches serving dinner

11. Volunteers from Providence Academy

12. Awesome ETSU interns, Hillary, Sydney and Blake

13. Great new board members

14. A paid for school bus

15. The response to our SOS letter this spring

16. A new roof!

17. Sending dozens of kids to camp this summer

18. Redeemer Church volunteering with Run the Gump

19. General Shale providing fire pit patio

Lowe’s of Johnson City did an incredible job of remodeling one of our classrooms. They fixed a wall, painted, carpeted, installed a new sink and counter top and and hung new lights for our 3rd-5th grade boys. Check out the painted brick! Great servant hearts and smiles all around!

Check out TheMentoringMan.org for info about our Executive Director Michael Marion walking 10 miles a day for 365 days to raise awareness and funding for our mentoring programs.
